    One thing I hope people discover reading through these project pages is that this project is “just the beginning.”

    The original focus groups of students and others that helped create the Master Plan gave us an ambitious agenda. We’re getting starting on construction — but we’re also just getting started on that agenda.

    This first projects addresses two of the most pressing needs identified by students — the need for good group study space (in the Library) and some kind of after-hours facility (at Drake.)

    Other important needs identified by the student groups include presentation practice rooms, group studies with walls, media/collaboration stations, a better classroom and a good place for campus groups to meet. The first four of those needs are targeted in in the next phase (the “Upper Commons”) of our renovation project. The fifth will follow.

    So, my “take away” is that we’re just getting started . . . in more ways than one.

    I am so impressed with the plans, and the way the library is soliciting and responding to feedback! Things look good.

    My comment is that I would hope the library could move away from gender dichotomous restrooms — do away with the M/W on the new restrooms and simply have two gender neutral rooms.
