Building Master Plan: High-Density Shelving Tower
The linchpin of all three phases of the renovation is the replacement of the original 1937 shelving at the center of the building with a mechanical high-density shelving tower. This will alow us to store more items in far less space.
Unlike some other libraries that have moved large portions of their collections into off-site storage, we will have all items readily available.
Moving materials into high-density shelving allows us to:
Extend the useful life of the current building
Provide a permanent (on-site) home for archival and lesser-used research items
Repurpose free space for classrooms, labs, group study, and other activities
